Reports from Italy are that Lamborghini will release a final extra fast variant of the Murcielago at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2009 as a fitting goodbye to the eight year old supercar before it is replaced with an all new model (read story here 2010 Lamborghini Jota) towards the end of 2010.
The new Murcielago variant is likely to carry the famous ‘SV’ badge seen on the Miura and Diablo in years gone by; however the ‘SL’ superleggera badge is also a possibility as it is seen on the back of the current Gallardo. Whilst rumours abound that the upcoming Murcielago variant will be rear wheel drive, which we’d love to see, we doubt this will eventuate. More likely is the all wheel drive will stay and the 100kg weight saving fitting for an ‘SV’ or ‘SL’ variant will come from lighter body panels, a carbon fibre rear wing and lightweight forged alloy wheels. The interior will also do without a number of weighty luxury features found in the standard car.
The existing 6.5L V12 unit in the current LP640 Murcielago generates 471kW which is likely to be massaged further to get closer to the magical 500kW.
