2009 Ducati Sportclassic, Retro Café Racer - (Australia)

The SportClassic family recreated the original styles produced by Ducati throughout the 1970s, motorcycles characterised by minimalist, sports designs with exposed frames and classic bodywork shapes typical of the 'Café Racer' era. To emphasis the unique style of these bikes, Ducati applied modern engineering techniques and finishes to original component designs, featuring plenty of chrome and polished finishes that literally mirror the beautiful details of the original motorcycles.

The SportClassic family is represented by these versions: the Sport 1000 S, using a classically shaped half-fairing with central round headlamp in keeping with the 70s styling, the GT 1000 and the new GT 1000 Touring, a special version of the elegant black with white stripe livery.

As well as its traditional colours of red with white stripe, the Sport 1000 S is now available in black with white stripe while the GT 1000 also arrives with the new black with white stripe livery alongside the two-tone scheme of classic silver & smoke grey.

SPORT 1000 S

Café Racer style
In a repeat of history, Ducati has followed the 1970s trend of individualism and performance enhancement with a period-style fairing on the Sport 1000 S. Boasting a dual seat and twin shocks, the Sport 1000 S lets you enjoy the Café Racer style two-up. The bold colour schemes are black or red with white stripe, with both versions sporting black frames, wheels and exhaust systems to complete the classic picture. A removable tailpiece cover gives the Sport 1000 S the Café Racer look, but when removed reveals a seat for your favourite passenger.

The Sport 1000 S is built with quality throughout. Its confident road holding is thanks to its race-inspired Trellis frame and sport-tuned suspension. It uses high performance Marzocchi 43mm upside-down front forks with classic brushed aluminium surfaces, while rear suspension is handled by twin high performance fully adjustable Sachs shocks. The Sport 1000 S bristles with classic Café Racer appeal, while still delivering the superior road holding and performance you expect from Ducati.

GT 1000

Celebrating the essential beauty of the Ducati GT models of the 1970s, the GT 1000 is a bike to be ridden every day, with a balance of two-up comfort and Ducati Desmo Twin performance. As you would expect from a motorcycle inspired by one of the original icons of Ducati, every element and component is built with the highest quality materials and engineered with performance as a priority. Although classically inspired, the GT is a modern Ducati motorcycle, so it is powerful, handles confidently and is exciting to ride.

Aboard the GT 1000, the feeling is one of comfort and control. The position is reassuringly upright, reaching to a pair of raised tubular handlebars. A well-padded dual seat features 'Ducati' printed in white proudly on the back. Rider footpegs are placed conservatively forward allowing comfort and good ground clearance at the same time. The GT 1000 is a true two-seater, so the passenger's footpegs are also sensibly placed for all-day comfort.

The rather slim fuel tank features knee cut-outs on the sides and deep sculpting on the top with a chrome fuel cap. Full fenders front and rear are complemented by trim side covers that remind us of the 70's originals. Many of the details like the top crowns, fork caps and handlebar mounts are finished in polished aluminium, and are reflected in the chrome surfaces of the wheels, instrument trim, handlebars and horn covers. Finally, the classic look is completed with chrome exhaust pipes and mufflers, one per side.

This year, the GT 1000 introduces the new, classically inspired colour scheme of black with white stripe. The sophisticated livery complements the existing two-tone classic silver and smoke grey.

GT 1000 Touring

Based on the GT 1000 in black with a white stripe, the new Touring version has its classic looks accentuated by chrome front and rear fenders, a protective screen and a chrome luggage rack. Sophisticated and practical, the GT 1000 Touring is the ideal bike for those who want to travel in classic and comfortable Ducati style.

The GT 1000 Touring is perfect for longer journeys as well as for every day use. Its balance of two-up comfort and the performance of the L-Twin engine are complemented by the practical touring screen, which offers protection for both rider and passenger.

High handlebars ensure a comfortable and reassuring riding position and the seat is wide and perfect for long journeys, either solo or with a passenger. Both the rider and passenger footpeg positions are designed to ensure a relaxed ride with maximum comfort. The top hoop of the chromed rack also offers your passenger a comfortable grab-rail.

The SportClassics - engineered for performance
The GT and Sport are both powered by the outstanding Desmo 1000 Dual Spark engine. The torquey air-cooled 90º L-Twin is the perfect match to power bikes with a sporting soul. The cylinders, with their traditional cooling fins and classic 'L' configuration, are direct descendents of the original Taglioni design. Slim and exposed for all to see, the latest 2 valve Desmo system, fuel-injection and computer controlled engine management ensure that the 1000 Dual Spark engine is powerful, dependable and thrilling to ride.

The SportClassic design takes advantage of the beauty of the signature Ducati tubular Trellis frame. The renowned strength and rigidity of the ALS 450 tubing has been further improved with complex triangulation and using the engine as a 'stressed member.'

The beauty of wire-spoke wheels grace Ducati road bikes once again. Starting with an alloy hub, the wheels use 36 chromed stainless steel spokes. 17" alloy Excel rims, famous in racing circles for their lightweight performance and durability, are used on the Sport 1000 S, while the GT 1000 is fitted with classic 17" chrome rims. Mounted to the rims are modern interpretations of classic sport tyres, replicating the original patterns, but with modern radial construction techniques and rubber compounds.

The alloy hubs mount dual 320mm brake discs up front and a 245mm disc in the rear, both using lightweight black Brembo floating calipers to provide extra stopping power. Braking performance is further enhanced by classic black, steel-braided brake lines.
