Hyundai is currently undergoing development for its medium sedan Sonata replacement, the i40 which is expected to be launched towards the end of 2009.
The new i40 will almost complete Hyundai’s new naming policy that is being applied to the brands hatches and sedans. The i10 city car was launched in European showrooms in the first quarter of 2008, the i20 light car will go on sale in March 2009 replacing or selling alongside the Getz depending on market, the i30 small hatchback was the first Hyundai to introduce the new nameplate in the second half of 2007 and replaced the Elantra nameplate, and late next year the Sonata will make way for the i40.
However Australian’s will most likely have to wait until 2010 to see the i40 as the current Sonata only received its mid-life cycle facelift earlier this year after launching down under in July 2005.
In other news the next generation Tucson compact SUV has recently been spied undergoing testing in the Southern states of America and will go on sale in Korea towards the end of 2009 with Australian sales most likely kicking off in 2010. The current Tucson has just received a technical upgrade and has been on sale locally since mid 2004.
