2010 Lamborghini Jota, the Murcielago Replacement - (Global)

October 24th, 2008

Lamborghini is currently undergoing testing for the replacement to the Murcielago supercar which launched back in 2001. In 2006 the Murcielago had an extensive update with the LP640. According to insiders at Lamborghini, next years replacement supercar will wear the badge ‘Jota’. Jota is the Spanish name of J, the tenth letter of the Spanish alphabet.

The Jota is expected to be wider, but lighter and of course faster than the Murcielago LP640 that it will replace.  The engine for the Jota is rumored to sport a 6.0L V12 with direct injection producing around 700bhp (522kW), a smaller yet more powerful powertrain than the original Murcielago’s 6.2L V12 with 570bhp (426kW) or the updated LP640’s 6.5L V12 with 631bhp (471kW).

Prototypes of the Jota are currently being driven around Audi’s Research & Development Centre in Germany, photographers have noted that the development mules appear noticeably wider around the front end than the Murcielago.
