DeLoreans Back From the Future Gathering

October 24th, 2008

DeLoreans from all over Australia made their way for the annual gathering held in Victoria this year. The event saw six DeLorean DMC-12’s join in for the weekend of festivities, not a bad turnout considering John DeLorean only manufactured 8,500 examples of the DMC-12 in Ireland.

The Delorean DMC-12 is famously known for its appearance in the three Back to the Future movies from the 80’s and is commonly known as the Delorean. John DeLorean an American designer and engineer was behind the creation of the original Pontiac GTO and in later years dreamed of creating a futuristic sportscar. John DeLorean started his operation in Ireland where the stainless steel sportscar were assembled and would only last for two years, the collapse of the DeLorean motor company known as DMC was as a result of high manufacturing costs and the drug charges laid upon John DeLorean in 1982.

A few years later the DeLorean name became alive again when Michel J Fox starred in the Back to the Future movies and the DMC-12 was used as the time machine, fitting position for the DMC-12 as it was a car ahead of its time.

This year six DeLoreans arrived on the Saturday morning for a full day of driving around Victoria’s landmarks including Mount Dandenong, the MCG and the Lunar drive-in.

Here are some photos from the event.
