Following on from news last week that Fiat will launch the Topolino in 2010 comes further details on the micro car.
According to Autocar magazine the new car will be manufactured in Serbia, at the Zastava plant in the city of Kragujevac. The new Topolino, production name still to be confirmed, will be less than metres long and will be powered by an all new two-cylinder petrol engine. Buyers will be able to choose from naturally aspirated 48kW (65hp) or turbo charged 67kW (90bhp) versions of the two-cylinder engine.
Remarkably, this will be the first 2-cylinder engine new car on sale in Western European since 1990. In order to keep the price of the car as low as possible the engine block will be cast from iron rather than aluminium.
No word yet on whether the Topolino will also be sold outside of Western Europe.
