have acquired images of the new Mercedes-Benz SLC and for the first time we can see the Gullwing doors which have previously been speculated to feature on the car. Whilst the previous spy images of the supercar have been engineering mules using the body of the Dodge Viper, Mercedes-Benz are now testing the new model with its production body in place.
What’s evident from the image is that the upcoming SLC will share many of its styling cues with the original Mercedes-Benz 300SL, which UK car journalist James May has often said to be the worlds first true supercar.
With Mercedes-Benz ending its relationship with McLaren next year, the SLC will replace the current SLR as the brands most exclusive sports car. The new supercar is due to be launched in 2010 so expect more details to emerge in the coming months.
The SLR featured a 5.4L V8 producing 626hp (460Kw) in the standard model and 640 hp (478Kw) in last years ‘722’. With the just released SL65 AMG Black Series producing a higher 670bhp (500Kw) from its 6.0L V12, surely the SLC will have to produce more power again. Rumour is that the SLC will remain V8 powered.
The wait now continues for some official details.
