Update

First it was just one baby blue car all by itself.  Now, at the end of the weekend we've realised it was just one of many yet to be released Fiesta's that Ford Australia are circulating inner-city Melbourne and probably Sydney and Brisbane as well.  We spotted a number of the funky new Fiesta's again today with attractive promotional staff behind the wheel..

So there I was driving home from a Saturday lunch at the Belgium Beer Garden on St Kilda Road, stopped at the traffic lights and in the corner of my eye was something new, something not borrowed and something blue.

The new Ford Fiesta was doing laps of Melbourne ahead of its Australian release in the first quarter of 2009. The new Ford Fiesta will be replacing the current model which has been on sale since 2004, the Fiesta also received a facelift in 2006. What seems like a short lifecycle is becoming the norm for this category of vehicles, as a result of being the most competitive segment and attracting Gen Ys these vehicles are forever changing.

Ford Australia’s President Marin Burela made the new Fiesta the highlight for Ford at the recent Sydney Motor Show, having worked in Europe on the upcoming Fiesta it's no wonder his speech lasted ten minutes explaining how this vehicle will take Ford Australia into the future.

The Fiesta spotted on St Kilda Road was the Zetec 3-door variant, coincidently next to the Fiesta was a Toyota Echo, another Light car sold in Australia prior to the Yaris. Compare the size and styling of them both and you’d be hard pressed to knock Ford’s new car.
