General Motors has confirmed with Automotive News that the Chevrolet Corvette will stop being produced for a period of one week from 6th October. As a result of the current automotive recession in America, General Motors will follow this up with a reduced assembly line speed and are expected to lay off a number of workers.
Sales of the Corvette are running below last years figures, down 8.5% in the first 8 months of 2008 compared with the previous year.
What’s even more concerning for Corvettte fans is the future of the iconic sports car. With General Motors placing a number of RWD projects on ice, it will be interesting to see if Corvette fans will even be able to buy a RWD V8 powered Vette by the middle of the next decade.
