Both Renault F1 Team drivers visited the Sandown Motor Circuit in Melbourne on Thursday afternoon for an event hosted by Renault Australia. Robert Kubica and Vitaly Petrov were on hand to present the Renault Clio RS (phase 2 model), which will soon be available in the Australian market, to the assembled media.
Built in the early 1960s, Sandown has seen the likes of Fangio, Moss and Brabham compete on this famous circuit in the past. So it was the ideal location to showcase the capabilities of the Clio RS to the Australian media as the drivers took some journalists for a spin around the track. The media then had a first glimpse of the new Megane RS, which will arrive in Australia in September.
Also at Sandown was a Renault Koleos featuring ‘Make Roads Safe’ branding to coincide with the Renault F1 Team’s pledge of commitment to the FIA initiative. The campaign aims to save five million lives worldwide over the next decade. Robert and Vitaly posed for photos with the Koleos, a car that obtained the maximum score of five stars in EuroNCAP crash tests, to affirm Renault’s corporate commitment to improving global road safety.
Members of the public were invited to attend the event and had the chance to meet the drivers and get their autographs. Some lucky fans even won the chance to sit alongside Robert and Vitaly for a lap of the circuit in the Clio RS.
