Transmissions - (Australia)

August 9th, 2007

The base model LX CRDi with 2.5-litre turbo-diesel is the only model in the range available with a five-speed manual transmission. A five-speed tiptronic-style automatic transmission with sequential shifting is optional on the LX CRDi but standard on all other CRDi and 3.3-litre petrol engine Sorento models.

The five-speed automatic is 'intelligent' with electronic control that monitors a variety of parameters to guarantee smooth shifts adapted to individual driving styles. The transmission features Kia's Sport Mode system that allows the driver to exercise sequential manual shifting in place of fully-automatic operation.

All Sorento models feature selectable 4WD with high and low range, and a free running front differential. The LX base model also features a limited slip rear differential (LSD). EX and EX-L models delete the LSD but add Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with traction control for safety and confidence in all driving conditions including towing.
