Economy and Efficiency - (Australia)

August 9th, 2007

Both new Sorento engines offer impressive fuel economy and environmental efficiency for a 4WD vehicle.

The new 2.5-litre turbo-diesel CRDi with five-speed manual transmission has an official ADR81/01 combined fuel consumption of 8.5 litres per 100kms which, matched with the 80-litre fuel tank, gives it an effective range of up to 940 kms on a single tank.

According to the Australian Government's Green Vehicle Guide (www.greenvehicleguide.gov.au), the 2.5-litre CRDi engine with manual transmission achieves a greenhouse gas rating of 5.5, an impressive figure for a vehicle with serious 4WD credentials.

When matched with the five-speed tiptronic-style automatic transmission, the CRDi returns an effective range of up to 850 kms.

The new 3.3-litre petrol V6, lighter and more efficient than the 3.8-litre engine it replaces, has an official combined fuel consumption of 10.9 litres per 100kms. Using 91RON regular unleaded fuel and matched with the five-speed tiptronic-style automatic transmission, the 3.3 V6 Sorento delivers an effective range of up to 733 kms.

According to the Green Vehicle Guide, the 3.3-litre V6 enjoys a nine percent fuel consumption saving over the previous 3.8-litre engine, and has a greenhouse gas rating of 5 against the rating of 4 for the 3.8-litre engine.
