Interior - (Australia)

August 9th, 2007

There was little need to improve on the practicality and design of the Sorento's cabin, although some minor changes have improved the comfort and appearance of the interior.

Up front, the centre dash and floor console have a neater layout and are trimmed with higher-grade materials. Sorento LX and EX models have a brushed-metal dash finish, while the EX-L has a stylish black woodgrain finish.

A sporty and refined new LED instrument cluster, open/shut air vents and large double cup holders between the front seats improve the look and functionality of the new Sorento. The dash also features an AM/FM radio and CD player that is MP3-compatible and feeds its output through six speakers.

The overhead console houses a sunglasses holder, map lights and the trip computer, as well as sunroof controls on the EX-L model.

LX and EX models are fitted with manual air-conditioning while the EX-L model comes with dual-zone climate control air-conditioning, allowing both driver and passenger to select their own comfort settings.

Charcoal cloth trim is standard on LX and EX models, while charcoal leather trim with red stitching is standard on the EX-L model.

But the added luxury doesn't hinder Sorento's versatility and load-carrying ability. A 60:40 split rear seat, lift-up rear cushions and fold-down backrests help make the already spacious load floor area even longer and totally flat.

Luggage capacity with seats up is 897 litres, expanding to 1960 litres when the rear seats are folded flat.

There are storage areas beneath the floor and twin storage bins within the rear quarter panels. A sliding rear cargo cover hides luggage and other items from unwanted gaze and a cargo net helps keep loose items from moving around.

The final practical touch is provided by a flip-up rear window that can be opened independently of the tailgate using the remote control, making it easier for owners to toss in smaller items like sports bags or small shopping bags.
