Proton Unveils All New Persona In Malaysia As Model Roll Out Continues

Proton has unveiled the latest addition to its model line-up with the launch of the all new Proton Persona by the King of Malaysia at its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

The new Persona is the fifth Proton designed and engineered model to be launched since the company unveiled its first indigenous model the Waja in 2000.

The Persona has been launched in Malaysia with three model variants using a 1.6 litre Campro engine with the choice of either five-speed manual or electronically controlled automatic transmissions.

It will initially be available in six colours; Blueberry tea, Light gold, Tranquillity black, Metal grey and Solid red. The seventh colour, Solid white, will be made available from September onwards.

The new Persona is due to go on sale in Australia in March 2008.

Proton's latest offering is the most competitively-priced model in the 1,600cc category of the Malaysian market, with prices starting from the equivalent of approximately $AUD 15,990.

Persona's advanced aerodynamic styling is bound to turn heads on the road while the dark grey interior delivers practicality and functionality with a roomy cabin and a separate boot for those requiring added security.

Powered by an improved 1.6litre Campro engine, the Persona promises smooth drivability and strong fuel economy, a hallmark of all Protons.

Developed using Proton's i-CARE commitment to quality improvement across every aspect of the car, Persona is a smart four door sedan which shares underpinnings with the well established GEN.2 five door hatch.

The newborn in the Proton range shares its name with the previous generation Mitsubishi based five door hatch but that is where the similarity ends, with the new car delivering advanced styling, generous interior and luggage space, practical and safety attributes and value for money.

The new Proton Persona has attracted strong buyer interest in Malaysia where several thousand advanced test drive bookings were logged even before the nation's King unveiled the car.

Chairman of Proton Holdings Dato' Mohammed Azlan Hashim, said strong response from Malaysian buyers signalled a vote of confidence in the changes Proton has made to the way it is doing business in its home land.

"This is testimony to the public's belief and confidence in Proton and it is an endorsement of the promises that we made in launching of our i-CARE program, which is a commitment to quality made by all Proton personnel," he added.

"We are extremely proud of the new Persona because it was built in accordance with Proton's new philosophy of producing the right car for the right market at the right price," he further explained.

"Proton has taken stringent measures across all aspects of the business and also encompassing our business associates, the vendors and dealers, to ensure that all our new models consistently meet the quality expectations of the public.

The launch of the new Persona follows the company's announcement last month of a landmark deal with Youngman Automobile Group of China, which will greatly increase Proton's volume and global reach.

Proton posted the greatest improvement of any marque in the most recent JD Power customer satisfaction survey conducted a result that reiterates and underscores Proton's commitment to quality.
