Proton Persona Set For March Launch

December 3rd, 2007

Proton has given Australians a sneak preview of its new four door sedan, the Persona revealing the new car will come to market in Australia in March 2008 with an impressive list of standard equipment and value for money price.

The Persona will debut at the Melbourne International Motor Show in late February and go on sale in March with a single high spec model at a price that is yet to be announced but which will be in the mid-teens and highly competitive with opposition models.

The new Persona, which is based on the popular Gen2 Hatch platform is powered by Proton's Self designed Campro 1.6 litre engine with 82kW and 120 Nm of Torque with either a five speed manual or four speed automatic transmission.

It will initially be available in seven colours; Blueberry tea, Light gold, Tranquillity black, Metal grey and Solid red and Solid white.

The new Proton Persona has been a major hit for Proton in its domestic market turning around sales and boosting the company's market share on the back of strong sales which have amounted to more than 20,000 in the three months since its launch in Malaysia.

Chairman of Proton Holdings Dato' Mohammed Azlan Hashim, said strong response from Malaysian buyers signalled a vote of confidence in the changes Proton has made to the way it is doing business in its home land and believes it will also boost Proton's sales in export markets such as Australia.

Persona will join Proton's existing Australian model line-up including Savvy, Jumbuck , Satria and Gen2.

Proton posted the greatest improvement of any marque in the most recent JD Power customer satisfaction survey conducted a result that reiterates and underscores Proton's commitment to quality.
