The Škoda Yeti Will Be Manufactured In The Czech Republic

October 19th, 2007

An increase in the number of jobs, the modernisation of the enterprise in Vrchlabí and the expansion of Kvasiny are the individual aims resulting from the strategic decision made by Škoda Auto's board of directors to have three full-scale factories at its disposal for the manufacture and assembly of vehicles by 2010.

Mladá Boleslav will continue to fully concentrate on manufacturing the Škoda Fabia and Octavia models. The Volkswagen plant in Bratislava will help to satisfy the high demand for vehicles from Mladá Boleslav by increasing production of the Octavia. Thanks to its vacant capacity and excess staff this plant is capable of manufacturing the additional cars in a short time. It is also one of the most modern plants in the concern.

"Thanks to the growing demand for the Octavia we are looking for suitable manufacturing capacities which will enable us to quickly react to the enormous interest shown by customers. With the latest investments in the expansion of the plant's manufacturing capacities we now found ourselves on the limit of our abilities in terms of production flow and logistics," explained Detlef Wittig, the chairman of Škoda Auto's board of directors.

The Vrchlabí plant is acquiring a key position as part of the current planning in Škoda Auto and the Volkswagen concern. It should become a full-scale plant, including a paint shop. After the question of transport access has been resolved and the subsequent investments have been put into modernising the operation it will apply for an order that will involve manufacturing a large volume of new vehicles that Volkswagen presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Škoda Auto will manufacture the Yeti SUV in Kvasiny. The management of Škoda Auto defended the manufacture of the Yeti in Kvasiny despite other VW plants in Europe having vacant capacity.

"Thanks to the Yeti our most up-to-date plant will gain a third production pillar and will be able to offer new jobs. Placing the production of the Yeti in the Czech Republic is a clear signal that, despite VW having vacant production capacities in other European locations, we are strengthening our position in the Czech Republic. Such a large investment necessarily requires development of the regional infrastructure around our plants. I strongly hope that the government and the regions will support our expansion in the Czech Republic," added Martin Jahn, the member of the Board of Directors responsible for Human Resources
