Honda Australia has made a strong debut in the Asia Pacific Rally Championship in the Civic Type R.
Driven by British Rally Champion Guy Wilks, Honda finished 5th place overall on Day 1 of the Rally, however technical difficulties forced its retirement on Day 2.
Honda Australia’s Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Yasuhide Mizuno is pleased with Honda’s performance and is excited about the challenge rallying will bring.
“Racing is Honda’s DNA. This rally has been an opportunity to test the car in Australian conditions and we hope to continue the learning process and participate in racing as much as possible.
“The car has performed very well and the result from Day 1 was encouraging. Honda is very much looking forward to the rally in Melbourne in October. Our collaboration with JAS Motorsport and the team at Mugen has also worked well.” Mr. Mizuno said.
Managing Director of JAS Motorsport, Mr. Alessandro Mariani said, “We are frustrated with the failure of the transmission which prevented the Civic from achieving an impressive result in its Australian debut. However, we enjoyed the experience and are very committed to the next Australian event."
Guy Wilks said, "…The guys at JAS Motorsport… have done a great job with the car and I was determined to get a result for them and Honda Australia."
Mr. Yoshihiro Nezu from Mugen said, “Our first attempt with the Civic Type R here in Australia has been successful for all involved.”
The Civic Type R is been purpose-built by JAS Motorsport and is powered by a Mugen DOHC 2-litre engine, matched to a close-ratio six-speed gearbox. It will next appear in the Melbourne rally in October.
