Vauxhall looks for pay cuts and four-day week

December 23rd, 2008
Previous - Next

Vauxhall has started talks with trade unions over pay cuts and the possible introduction of a four-day week.

A spokesman said: “We are in discussions with unions about how we can cut structural costs. There’s a whole range of things on the table, from company shift patterns, to pay cuts to getting rid of bonus payments; 2009 is going to be extremely challenging.

“The key thing that we are trying to avoid is enforced redundancies. We have spent a fortune training our workforce and we are going to need them back when things pick up in the future.”

Vauxhall has manufacturing plants in Luton and Ellesmere Port.
