On the day of the 100th birthday celebrations for General Motors, the company has announced that GM will establish a $250million research centre in China. Nick Reilly, GM’s Asia-Pacific boss, has confirmed the centre will work on projects for GM worldwide.
1,500 engineers and scientists are expected to be employed at the new facility focusing on hybrid engine technology. GM already sell hybrid vehicles in China and is expected to increase the number of models available as a result of this announcement.
Mr Reilly also stated that he see’s China overtaking the United States in the next 5 or so years as the highest vehicle selling vehicle country in the world.
