Mitsubishi Helps Steve Rise to the Challenge of Beijing Olympics - (Australia)
August 4th, 2008
Pole vaulter Steve Hooker is one of Australia’s best hopes for a track and field medal in Beijing, and with the help of Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) and a new sponsorship agreement, he is set to reach new heights.
As corporate partners to the Australian Olympic Committee, Mitsubishi is deepening their commitment to Australia’s sporting future by supporting seven of Australia’s most promising athletes in the lead up to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Steve Hooker is one of the athletes supported by MMAL on his journey to the Olympics and, according to Steve, that support is very welcome.
“It’s really great to be involved with Mitsubishi leading up to the Olympics. I feel like it’s a real recognition of all the work I’ve done over the past 10 years. It’s exciting to be involved with a company that’s passionate about supporting the Olympics,” said Steve.
President and chief executive officer of MMAL, Robert McEniry is very proud to be supporting the Australian Olympic team in the lead-up to Beijing.
“Young athletes like Steve work so hard to become the best and strive to represent Australia at the Olympic Games. Each of the seven sponsored athletes has come so far, and we at Mitsubishi want to make the rest of their journey to the games as smooth as possible.”
Steve has a proud athletic champion lineage: his mother claimed two Commonwealth Games silver medals for long jump, and his father was a four-time national athletics title holder. With these genetics on his side, Steve was bound to strive for greatness.
In January this year, Steve achieved his personal best and became the fifteenth man in history to clear six metres in the pole vault. He now has his sights set firmly on Olympic gold.
To assist Steve in his preparation for the games, MMAL have loaned him a brand new Mitsubishi Lancer for 12 months. The Mitsubishi Lancer VRX combines powerful styling, sports tuned suspension and class leading safety features as standard.
“”I’m driving a Lancer VRX. It’s a fantastic car with all the comfort, power and safety features you could ask for. It’s really stylish too,” said Steve.
