Saab and George Calombaris Join in a Taste of Style - (Australia)

Award winning Melbourne Chef George Calombaris is teaming up with Saab Australia to bring his own unique culinary twist to the forthcoming Taste of Melbourne festival at the Royal Exhibition buildings in August.

The mastermind behind the renowned Press Club Restaurant and Bar in Melbourne, Calombaris’ individual style will be an exciting feature of the Saab ‘Individuality Released’ experiential display area at Taste where he will be preparing unique twists on a food classic - ice cream!

Palate pleasing tastes will include a range of tempting choices including one that will be as distinctive and memorable as the Saab Saffron Yellow Aero Convertible that provided the inspiration for the flavour.

George Calombaris, has developed a prestigious resume of awards in his short time of cooking including The Age Good Food Guide 2008 ‘Chef of the Year’. The Press Club was awarded two chef hats and ‘Best New Restaurant in Victoria’.

He is one of 13 chefs from Melbourne’s leading and hatted restaurants who will come together to feature three signature dishes from their restaurants as part of the Taste of Melbourne at the Royal Exhibition buildings from 21 – 24 August, 2008.

Director of GM Premium Brands, Mr Parveen Batish, said Saab and Calombaris have created a partnership built around a synergy of tastes vested in modern and innovative style, an elite level of performance and premium products that are individual in nature.

“The Saab range of vehicles including Sport Sedan, SportCombi, Convertible and our most recent introductions of diesel and Turbo X are associated with individuality and performance. Participating in a showcase like Taste and partnering with George reinforces these pillars for the Saab brand,”
Mr Batish said.

Mr George Calombaris said inspirational food is surprising and stimulating and allows you to connect with people on an emotional level.

“Similarly, Saab products are performance focused, based on progressive design and the balance between tradition and innovation, that complement my direction and style and creates an emotional response that delivers a unique experience,” Mr Calombaris said.

Saab and George Calombaris will also be collaborating on several other projects throughout 2008 including designing experimentally-inspired menus for the Saab VIP enclosure during the Melbourne Cup Carnival along with being a feature host at the events.
