No Aussie surf icon has captured the hearts and minds of as many people as Occy, who has been recognized as a great surfer for more than 3 decades. His passion, courage and positive attitude have brought him respect all around the world.
Occy's career spans way back to 1983 where from the age of 15 to now 41 he has redefined high performance surfing for at least two generations. After a little break the tenacious Australian launched a comeback in the late '90s which saw the fit and focused Occy claim his first world title in 1999 at age 33. After announcing retirement in 2005 Occy re announced that he would stay on in 2006 and once again turned the world on its ear after a stunning performance at the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach Australia. Back again in 2007 the mighty "Raging Bull" will always be hard to contain.
After checking out our Škoda Octavia RS 2.0 TFSI and Octavia 4x4, Occy has become an official Australian ambassador of the brand, which, he believes, perfectly fits within traditional Australian values. And importantly enables him to throw a few surf boards in the back or on the roof.
Even though Škoda is officially the newest European car company "Down Under", the car brand has a great history - more than 100 years since it has produced its first vehicle! Australia has just become the 100th country of export of Škoda cars.
All Škodas have a funky a sporty edge to them. With its simply clever bits such as drinks cooler or a massive internal space. Further more, all cars have a very high level of standard features, such as 6 airbags, cruise control, ESP, ABS, EBD, MP3 dock/compatibility and many other features.
Through the exceptional Czech Engineering and Volkswagen Group technology, Škoda is therefore believed to have the capacity to redefine European driving experience in Australia as positioned amongst the excellent Japanese automotive brands.
Both, Occy & Škoda are sharing a great history, real passion and commitment to produce the best possible results. Both have a love of the great outdoors also.
Škoda has a very close relationship to sport: It is currently a general sponsor of the biggest cycling race worldwide, the Tour de France, and has recently become an official sponsor of the major Australian cycling race - the Tour Down Under.
Škoda has decided to approach Australia from an active and lifestyle angle. The recent Škoda Sand ad not only perfectly fits within the idea, but also focuses on long tradition of European creativity and craftsmanship.
