The winning players will take delivery of the 12 brand new Astras just as the national netball training camps for 2008 get underway.
Brisbane-based player Lauren Nourse will pick up her Astra today at the Brisbane International Motor Show, where she will be joined by NSW players Catherine Cox and Susan Pratley for an autograph signing session on the GM Holden stand.
Inspired by the Astra slogan, “Which Astra Are You?”, the players had fun choosing their new cars from four body styles, including Twin Top convertible, five-door hatch, five-door wagon and three-door coupe, and a range of 1.8-litre to 2.2-litre petrol and diesel powertrains.
GM Holden Executive Director of Sales & Marketing Alan Batey said the Astras are a great way to congratulate the Australian Netball Team for its world championship success.
“We hope the Astras will make it easier for the team to get to training and prepare for the upcoming season. We wish the girls every success in the year ahead,” he said.
“And for those in the team such as Liz Ellis, who retired after the world championship, we hope their Astra makes it easier to drive around and show off their medals to friends and family!"
Player Sharelle McMahon (Vic) has already chosen a Holden Astra Twin Top convertible, and can’t wait to collect her Astra from GM Holden later this month.
“Holden has been a great partner to the Australian Netball Team for a number of years, and our World Championship campaign could not have been as comprehensive without their support,” she said.
“When we arrived home from the World Champs the girls were joking saying ‘I wonder when Holden are going to give us our keys?’ We were so surprised and excited to hear that we actually are going to get keys! I’m sure the girls will all love driving around in the Astras for the next 12 months.”
Holden has sponsored the Australian Netball Team’s home International Test Series since 2004 and extended its support to the 2007 Australian Netball Team during the New World Netball Championships last year.
