Olympic Athletes Driven by Support

December 12th, 2007

Australia’s Winter Olympic Committee are the delighted recipients of two brand-new Mitsubishi Pajero four-wheel drive wagons.

The vehicles, supplied by Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL), have been provided by the company as part of their long-term sponsorship of the Australian Olympic Committee which includes the Beijing Games in 2008, the Vancouver Winter Games in 2010 and the London Games in 2012.

Winter Olympics Team hopefuls Bree Munro and Michael Robertson took delivery of the vehicles in Melbourne this week, and between the two of them, these top level athletes know a lot about drive. An aerial skier and mogul skier respectively, both Bree and Michael have represented Australia at World Cup level and are looking forward to hitting the slopes in training sessions leading up to the 2010 Winter Olympics.

The rigorous training regime undertaken by all Winter Olympic competitors and their coaches will be made a little easier with the provision of the go-anywhere four-wheel drive wagons, designed specifically to tackle all types of terrain, including the snow-covered slopes of Australia's high country.

Voted ‘2007 4X4 of the Year’ by 4X4 Australia Magazine, the Mitsubishi Pajero combines luxury with functionality and technological innovation, creating a vehicle ideal for either city or off-road driving. The Pajero boasts an impressive list of standard features, including side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, Active Stability Contro, flexible seating options and Bluetooth connectivity.

The Pajero’s reputation as an outstanding four-wheel drive has been cemented with eleven wins in the gruelling Dakar Rally, the last six in succession and five straight class wins in the Australian Off Road Rally Championship.

Paul Unerkov, MMAL's General Manager of Marketing said the company was thrilled its sponsorship of the Australian Olympic Team was helping athletes in immediate and practical ways.

“Winter sports are often overlooked in Australia,” he said. “Winter Olympians work incredibly hard and suffer severe injuries for their sport, just as athletes in the summer sports do. It’s fantastic we can lend them our support in the form of vehicles as tough and unstoppable as they are.”
