Stuttgart/West Palm Beach – A playoff between golf legend and Maybach brand ambassador Nick Faldo and Paul Azinger, also a champion golfer, concluded the final round of the team tournament for the Maybach Golf Cup, which took place on December 1 at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
After the conclusion of the team game, the two captains played four more holes to get bonus points for their teams - with Paul Azinger’s team ultimately carrying off the Maybach Golf Cup. The sports highlight of this year’s event was the duel between Faldo, who will be the captain of the European team at the Ryder Cup 2008 competition, and his U.S. counterpart Azinger. The two world-class golfers headed teams made up of 30 players who qualified in the first rounds and ten professional golfers.
The first fans to congratulate the winning team were the club’s owner, Donald Trump, and the event’s host, Klaus Nesser, head of Maybach & SLR. Trump and Nesser presented the winners with the elegant porcelain trophy at a gala event in the exclusive Mar-a-Lago Club. Other prominent guests included world champion boxer Wladimir Klitschko; Edwin Moses, winner of two Olympic gold medals in the 400-metre hurdles and Chairman of the Laureus World Sports Academy; former U.S. football star and member of the Laureus World Sports Academy Marcus Allen; and Ulrich Schmid-Maybach, great-grandson of company founder Karl Maybach and President of the Maybach Family Foundation.
Charity auction for the Maybach Family Foundation and the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation USA
The highlight of the evening was a series of spontaneous auctions. A Maybach customer crowned his order of a Landaulet model by donating $100,000 to the Maybach Family Foundation, which provides a mentoring program to support highly talented young people from disadvantaged economic and social backgrounds. Faldo and Azinger will autograph the interior of this vehicle in order to make it a memento of the finale of the Maybach Golf Cup 2007.
Another customer auctioned off “inner circle” admission tickets for the heavyweight boxing championship match that will take place on February 23, 2008, in the Madison Square Garden in New York. The $50,000 fetched by the tickets was donated to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation USA. Klitschko, a Laureus Friend & Ambassador, provided the exclusive tickets, which cannot be bought through the event’s sales channels.
A highlight alongside the golf competition was the presentation of the Vision Maybach Landaulet study. This model, which continues the tradition of majestic vehicles for chauffeuring heads of state and royalty, also quickened the hearts of the prosperous automobile enthusiasts and collectors who had assembled for the event in West Palm Beach.
After his ride in the high-end luxury vehicle, Klaus Nesser had this to say: “To be chauffeured in the Vision Maybach Landaulet in the open air is the ultimate luxury. All we can say is: The sky’s the limit!”The Maybach Golf Cup is an exclusive tournament for customers and friends of the Maybach brand. To qualify for the tournament’s finale in West Palm Beach, the participating teams had to play in four qualification tournaments held throughout the year in Marbella (Spain), Moscow (Russia), Braz (Austria), and Beuerberg (Germany).
