Following on from last weeks details on the all new 2009 Volkswagen Golf GTI which will produce 207bhp (154kw) comes the report from AutoCar magazine that this is just the start when it comes to go-fast Golf’s.
A performance diesel variant, going by the name of GTD, will go on sale in Europe in the second quarter of 2009, featuring a twin-turbocharged 2.0L engine producing more than 200bhp and 260lb ft of torque.
Further down the track a tuned GTI is rumoured to be in the works. Using the same 2.0L TSI engine from the GTI but tuned up to 270bhp (200kW) it would most likely be fitted with VW’s Haldex semi-permanent all wheel drive system.
And lastly for fans of the current R32, in 2010 a replacement model currently being referred to as R42 could go on sale with a 2.5L turbo-charged five cylinder engine. This powerplant is currently undergoing testing and will appear next year in the Audi TT RS with approximately 350bhp (260kW).
Sounds like good times ahead for Golf fans worldwide.
