2008 Subaru Forester 2.0D - (UK)

September 24th, 2008

Whilst Australian buyers will most likely be waiting until early 2010 to drive Subaru’s first ever Diesel Forester, UK buyers can now walk into a dealership and place an order.  The first generation Forester launched way back in 1997 so it’s been a long time coming for Subaru to offer a Diesel variant.

The Forester 2.0D comes with Subaru’s all new 2.0L Turbo Diesel flat four engine generating 145hp and 258lb ft.  The engine first appeared in the medium sized Legacy (Liberty in Australia) which has been receiving great reviews.  UK Car magazine have just had one of the first drives of the Turbo Diesel Forester and came away giving it a 3 out of 5 stars.

They commented that the engine is exceptionally refined, revs with a smooth and satisfying thrum and unlike many of its competitors its power delivery is very even.  However they were less enthusiastic with the cars handling and also steering and damping, mentioning a number of competitors that they believe have the better of the Forester.
