Rexton/Kyron Updates - (Australia)

April 18th, 2007

UPDATED KYRON AND REXTON COMPLIMENT NEW ACTYON RANGE

An updated Kyron will join the new Actyon range and the recently upgraded Rexton to give SsangYong a totally fresh SUV lineup this year.

SsangYong will introduce the face-lifted Kyron in June featuring substantial work to the front and rear appearance of the mid range SUV, with a neater and more streamlined look.

The interior also gets a rework with enhancements to fascia and trim.

The recently upgraded Rexton has gained more power from a new variable geometry turbo and is now more road friendly with the introduction of independent rear suspension and all wheel drive replacing the previous 'torque on demand' system.

The upgraded Rexton has the same 2.7 litre common rail turbo diesel engine, however output has been increased by 10kW to 137Kw while delivering a massive 390Nm of torque thanks to the new variable geometry turbo.

"The introduction of the Actyon range, a facelifted Kyron and the more powerful upgraded Rexton, SsangYong now has a clear SUV hierarchy," said Brad Larkham.

"The Actyon introduces customers to the range, the Kyron is slightly larger and provides efficient transportation for those seeking more size and space, while the seven seat Rexton is our flagship," he added.

"All are great on or off road, offer petrol or diesel, and are positioned to offer unbeatable value for money."

Rexton's revised power plant delivers a significant 17 percent power boost and an 18 percent increase in torque which represents an increase of over 50Nm on the superseded version.

Despite the power up, IRS and full time four-wheel drive, the Rexton Limited price will remain unchanged at $53,990.

"Fuel efficiency is such an important factor in the current economic climate and having a seven-seat luxury SUV that can offer truly efficient motoring is a real advantage in the new car market," said Brad Larkham.

Rexton fuel economy is a very competitive 9.2l/100km, in line with the strong reputation SsangYong's diesel engines have built for fuel efficiency.

A 5-Speed T-Tronic automatic transmission is mated to the new 2.7-litre VGT common rail diesel, while the safety package boasts Electronic Stability Control, Hill Descent Control, Active Rollover Protection and Traction Control.

The external appearance of the face lift Rexton has given it a bold, more muscular exterior design that adds to its appeal.
