SsangYong has introduced a new version of its top of the range SUV, the Rexton boasting added features and standard equipment, improved styling and a cleaner and more powerful Euro IV spec 2.7 litre common rail turbo diesel engine.
Rexton II is a part of SsangYong Australia's revitalized model line-up which has seen the company's entire SUV and dual cab ute range given sharper pricing, more features and 100 percent pure diesel power.
The Rexton II will now be available in two model variants, Rexton II RX270 priced at $35,990 with its standard turbo common rail engine and the new flagship Rexton II RX270 SPR priced at $49,990 with variable geometry turbo and maximum equipment levels.
According to SsangYong Motor Australasia's managing director Russell Burling Rexton is now one of the best value for money SUVs available in Australia delivering higher levels of safely, equipment and economy than any comparable SUV on the market
"I understand this is a big call, however to gain similar levels of equipment and luxury from rival brands you would have to pay up to $20,000 more than Rexton II," said Russell Burling.
"We have underlined the importance of safely making Electronic Stability Program (ESP) standard on both Rexton II variants as it is across the SsangYong SUV range ensuring safer and more predictable handling across all driving conditions," he said.
"Standard Rexton II is well equipped but the SPR model boasts every luxury feature available in the SsangYong catalogue as well a variable geometry turbo and AWD," he added.
"We have concentrated on ensuring SsangYong buyers get value for money, high equipment levels, safety and performance and I believe we have achieved just that," said Burling.
Standard ESP on all SsangYong SUV models has given the Korean maker a safety edge over many rivals giving buyers a vehicle they can trust in all conditions.
ESP monitors road conditions and vehicular status constantly, adjusting engine output and braking whenever the driver is about to lose control. ESP integrates the antilock brake system; active rollover protection, anti-slip regulation and brake-force assist to improve Rexton II's intervention capabilities.
Safety is further enhanced with both front and side SRS Airbags protecting passengers in the event of a crash.
The flagship Rexton II SPR delivers some of the highest standard equipment levels available in any SUV in Australia in a package that includes climate control air conditioning, reverse parking sensors, automatic rain sensing front wipers, automatic headlights, auto dimming rear view mirror, leather trim with electrically heated front seats, eight way electrically adjustable drivers seat with three position memory, electric sunroof and body kit.
The Rexton II features SsangYong's T-Tronic five-speed automatic transmission with Thumbs Up manual shift feature as standard on SPR and as an option on the standard variant.
SsangYong designers have also overhauled the styling with new trim and some subtle panel changes to give cleaner styling overall.
The Rexton II stands apart with its trademark SsangYong grille, unique bonnet character lines and projection headlamps.
Built on an ultra-rigid frame Rexton II features triple-layer construction built to absorb and disperse shocks and impacts of all kinds.
This results in less vibration during normal operation, longer durability overall and greater safety in a collision.
Standard Rexton II is equipped with Torque on Demand all wheel drive where most of the power is allocated to the rear wheels under normal driving conditions and should road conditions worsen and the wheels start to slip, the system will automatically transfer more torque to the front wheels for greater stability.
Rexton II SPR uses a permanent AWD system.
The SsangYong XDi 270 diesel engine with 3rd-generation turbocharger cranks out a best-in-class 121kW. It is equipped with a sophisticated direct injection system that boosts power and fuel efficiency for cleaner, more economical operation.
The XVT 270 diesel engine in the SPR model boasts even greater power and torque thanks to its latest generation variable geometry turbocharger, which delivers 137kW or power and 402 Nm of torque and average fuel consumption of just 9.1 litres per 100km.
Maximum torque is delivered over virtually the entire rpm range, providing quick engine response and outstanding acceleration when passing.
Rexton II is a very complete SUV package no matter which variant is chosen.
