SsangYong has announced sweeping changes to its hardworking and versatile dual cab utility including a name and a new Australian built six-speed automatic transmission.
The ute will now be know as the SsangYong Sports distinguishing it from its sibling the Actyon SUV while the new six speed gearbox will give the diesel powered dual cab greater flexibility and economy on the road.
Sports Dual cab now also boasts four wheel disc brakes and ABS anti lock brakes across the range.
Pricing has also been sharpened with Sports Dual Cab 4x2 starting from $28,990 and 4x4 starting from $31990 making it the best priced diesel dual cab ute on the market.
The new high technology six speed auto will be available in 4x2 configuration from just $31,990 and in 4x4 configuration from $34,990.
Sports Dual Cab will also now be available as an SPR version, SsangYong's new flagship model across the range, offering maximum equipment levels at the affordable price of $39,990 including six speed automatic which comes as standard,
Like all 2008 model SsangYongs the Sports dual cab is now exclusively 100percent pure diesel powered with the XDi two-litre turbocharged engine generating maximum power of 104kW at 4,000rpm and maximum torque of 310Nm/1,800rpm making it ideal as a tough workhorse or a smooth and quiet everyday drive.
According to SsangYong Motor Australasia managing director, Russell Burling the new pricing structure, transmission and enhanced braking package makes Sports dual cab an even better proposition in the dual cab Ute market.
"Sports Dual Cab has attracted plenty of attention already and we believe our revisions of price and equipment levels will put it on the radar for a lot more buyers particularly in fleets," said Russell Burling.
"I believe Sports proves you can have luxury appointments, diesel economy and performance in a very competitively priced package," he said.
The new optional six speed automatic transmission was developed and manufactured here in Australia by Drivetrain Systems International at its Albury facility and boasts sport or winter modes altering the electronically controlled shift points to maximize power or minimize fuel consumption. Winter mode starts the vehicle in second gear to reduce wheel spin in adverse weather or road conditions
Standard include steering wheel mounted controls, engine immobiliser and alarm, remote keyless entry system and a protective tub liner.
With improved noise and vibration dampening of the engine and powertrain, the Sports Dual Cab runs much more quietly than other utes while its coil rear springs are unique amongst dual cab utes delivering a quieter and smoother ride without compromising load capacity
The common rail diesel engine is highly efficient complying to Euro IV standards for low emissions and maximum power with a flat torque curve over the widest possible rpm range for better acceleration both when starting and passing.
