Satria Neo joins the GEN.2 and Savvy as part of Proton's compact and fuel-efficient range of contemporary small cars, completing the company's second generation of models.
It is the third model to be fully developed in-house by Proton using its own design and engineering team along with the expertise of its subsidiary Lotus.
With fresh European influenced styling, Satria Neo is on sale in Australian dealerships now and comes to market with a recommended retail price of $18,990 driveaway for the entry level GX variant.
Satria Neo is powered by the latest version of Proton's own CamPro 1.6 litre twin-cam multivalve engine with a five-speed manual transmission or an optional four-speed automatic transmission.
The free revving 1.6litre engine delivers 82kW of power and 148 Nm of torque and uses the latest Step4 engine management profile which when coupled with a kerb weight of 1159kgs, provides strong performance, a flatter and more even torque curve and impressive fuel economy.
With a combined city/highway fuel consumption average of 7.2 litres/100km (manual) Satria Neo promises low running costs to match its strong value for money package.
According to Proton Cars Australia's managing director John Startari, the Satria Neo will win hearts with its looks, handling and value.
"This is the most stylish car ever to come from the Proton design studios and takes the company back into the small three door hatch sector where the previous Satria delivered good volume in the past," said John Startari.
"While Satria has not been sold here for the past two years it is still a strong name plate and the Neo will quickly win over previous Satria buyers as well as providing Proton with extra conquest sales," he said.
"As well as delivering superlative levels of ride and handling the Satria Neo has a real X-factor and according to our research it will have wide appeal thanks to that attractive, individual styling," he added.
"The three door hatch market is a niche that is under contested in Australia at the moment and one where Proton can pick up incremental business without taking sales from our other models," he concluded
With its own indigenous design Proton has linked the Satria Neo to its siblings, the GEN.2 and Savvy, retaining strong family design cues, while also giving each a personality of their own.
With a true sporting character the Satria Neo also carries a strong Lotus DNA and is very clearly linked to the famous sports car maker, whose very ethos is performance through light weight.
Proton engineers used a new stronger and more rigid platform as a starting point to bring Lotus dynamics to the Satria Neo employing many of the strategies used in cars such as the previous Satria GTi as well as the GEN.2 and Savvy to create a sporty hatch that offers superior handling, balance and responsiveness.
Satria Neo uses MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension with stabiliser bars front and rear along with four wheel disc brakes and rack and pinion steering to ensure a total dynamic handling package.
Lotus styling is also noticeable in the interior of the Satria Neo with its sporty instrument binnacle, steering wheel and body hugging bucket seats.
Satria Neo will be available in two grades the entry level GX and the high spec GXR.
Both the GX and GXR feature high levels of standard equipment including air-conditioning, reverse sensors, ABS anti-lock brakes, SRS dual front airbags, seat belt pre-tensioners, power steering, power windows, power mirrors, central locking with integrated remote keyless entry, alarm and immobiliser.
The Satria Neo GXR also features 16" alloy wheels with Continental Conti Sport Contact low-profile tyres, auto climate control air-conditioning and front fog lights as standard.
Satria Neo will be available in a range of six colours including Twilight Blue, Brilliant Red and Solid White on both grades, with Liquid Orange, Metal Grey and Iridescent White, exclusive to Satria Neo GXR.
Satria Neo comes with Proton's full three-year unlimited kilometre warranty with a seven-year anti-corrosion warranty along with three year's roadside assistance at no extra cost.
In line with Proton's commitment to producing better and higher quality cars, Satria Neo has been built with certification by global leader in compliance engineering, testing and quality registration services, TUV Rheinland Group.
TUV not only certified the overall vehicle, but also helped to control the quality of production processes at Proton vendors, and more importantly the components they supplied.
Like the Savvy that came before it TUV engineers were involved from before the start of volume build of the Satria Neo, ensuring optimum quality at every level of production.
