July 10th, 2007

Proton has announced run out pricing for the stylish and economical Savvy five-door hatch to deliver better value and a more competitive market edge.

The Proton Savvy manual will be priced from just $13,990 driveway for series 1 models ahead of a model upgrade due later this year, ensuring Savvy remains one of the best equipped and best value small cars on the Australian market.

The pricing represents a saving of $2,000 on the Savvy's previous recommended retail price of $15,990 drive away.

Proton Cars Australia managing director John Startari said the pricing for Savvy continues to be amongst the best for five door hatches on the Australian market.

"Its pricing and standard equipment levels mean that feature for feature it is well ahead of other small hatches in terms of value for money," said Mr Startari.

"As a city car it is without peer offering strong fuel economy, compact size and excellent safety features," he said.

"There may have been a pause in fuel price rises recently but the pressure is still there and we are finding an increasing number of people coming into our showrooms to explore the advantages of the economical and value packed Savvy.

"This adjustment in pricing will make it even more attractive amongst new car buyers," he added.

Standard equipment includes ABS Anti-lock brakes, power steering, front power windows, reverse parking sensors AM/FM/CD stereo, remote central locking, keyless entry, halogen front fog lamps and engine immobiliser and 15" alloy wheels.

The Savvy is powered by a 1.2 litre engine with a five-speed manual transmission or a five-speed Automatic/Manual clutchless transmission.

The key to the new Savvy is its light weight and clever design whichreflects its Lotus heritage.

The free revving engine delivers 55kW of power and when coupled with the Savvy's light weight of just 950kgs provides strong performance and even more impressive fuel economy.

The Savvy also has greater torsion rigidity compared to previous Protons and has been tested against a number of German and Italian marques during the development process.

Lotus styling also influenced the vehicle's sleek and stylish exterior projecting a young, spirited and energetic car. Lotus styling prevailed in the interior with its minimalist approach creating a practical and sporty cabin.

One practical feature built into the car is the flat-folding rear seats for increased practicality and increased load space.

Savvy is available in five colours including Passion Blue, Solid Red, Apple Green, Metal Grey, Tranquillity Black.
