MINI today welcomes the MINI Clubman range to its ranks as the third variant joining the ultra-successful Hardtop and Cabrio models.
Initial deliveries of the first new MINI Clubman, with its stand-out design and style and traditional agile MINI performance and handling, will begin on 6th March, 2008 from the 20 MINI Garages situated around Australia.
Four models are available at launch, all of which have unrivalled potential for customisation by Australian buyers.
The R56 MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S Hardtop models introduced to Australia in 2007 enjoyed extremely strong sales and very high levels of customer personalisation from the huge range of factory options. MINI is confident this will continue and grow even stronger with the arrival of the MINI Clubman.
The four new models are the MINI Cooper Clubman, MINI Cooper Clubman Chilli, MINI Cooper S Clubman and MINI Cooper S Clubman Chilli.
Each will be available with either a six-speed manual gearbox (standard) or a six-speed automatic transmission as an option, complete with steering-wheel mounted gear change paddles.
The MINI Clubman is a unique market offering from MINI, with a Splitdoor design at the rear and the rear-hinged Clubdoor fitted behind the driver’s door.
No other vehicle offers the practicality, verve, dynamic excitement or unique presentation of the MINI Clubman concept. No other brand can rival the ability of MINI customers to build exactly the car their want, with more than 40 exterior colour combinations and a huge array of colour, trim and feature options for the interior. No other product has the quality, engineering prowess or the backing of the MINI Garage dealer network, itself backed by the strength of the BMW Group.
While the MINI Clubman has a distinctive side and rear profile, it is identical to the MINI Hardtop from the A-pillars forward and uses exactly the same 1.6-litre four-cylinder engines varieties as the successful three-door model.
The MINI Clubman is aimed at MINI enthusiasts who expressed a desire for an additional serving of space to go with the driving excitement of the Hardtop.
It is this same community that will predominantly comprise the MINI Clubman customer group: urban based, young and young-at-heart, premium market customers seeking an expression of their passion and excitement for driving. They will see the MINI Clubman first as a MINI and secondly as an innovative and unusual vehicle that not only offers more space, but does so with panache.
“The new MINI Clubman will offer our customers a little bit more real estate with which to enjoy their lifestyle,” said Justin Hocevar, National Manager MINI.
“MINI Clubman is only 239 mm longer but opens up a world of possibilities for customers, with more useable interior space for loading adventure pursuit gear, or for enough luggage for even longer road trips along our exciting and unspoiled road networks.
“MINI Clubman is chic, cheeky and even more accommodating. We have answered our fans who have said they wanted more from MINI.
“All MINI brand models excel through their engaging driving experience, go-kart handling, comfort and agility, not to mention impressive fuel economy and low emissions, and the MINI Clubman shares all these brand values.
“We know size doesn’t count when it comes to delivering exhilaration and satisfaction. It’s how you drive it that matters,” Justin said.
