All-New Ford FG Falcon Star of Melbourne International Motor Show

February 29th, 2008

Four hero models of Ford's all-new FG Falcon model range made their public debut at the Melbourne International Motor Show today, headlining an exciting new showroom line-up that sets new standards in local motoring.

The iconic XR6 Turbo and Boss 290-powered XR8, representing the finest performance vehicles from the Ford stable, take pride of place on the Ford stand alongside two of the new G Series models – G6E and G6E Turbo.

Fire-breathing performance-enhanced examples from FPV, including the recently released F6X and yet-to-be-launched GT, F6 and Super Pursuit Ute, are also on display for show attendees to admire.

Ford's extensive light and medium imported car arsenal will also be out in force, completing one of the most comprehensive Ford vehicle line-ups in recent memory.

"With the arrival of the all-new FG range, Ford now has a model perfect for every conceivable customer want across the driving spectrum," said Ford Australia President Bill Osborne.

"Supplementing locally developed world-class product with the finest available European-designed models has enabled us to offer customers a robust line-up of dynamically superior, premium vehicles loaded with safety, performance and features.

"Ford now has a no excuses line-up which is second to none, and when considered as a whole positively outshines all local and imported competition."

The eagerly awaited FG range, the first all-new Falcon since 1998, is prominently positioned on the Ford stand.

On sale in May, the new model boasts all-new exterior and interior architectures and designs, an all-new front suspension, new powertrains with more power, more torque and improved fuel economy, and an advanced safety package.

Furthermore, FG introduces a new model line-up and nomenclature, incorporating the new sports luxury G Series sedan range, along with three different exterior front end treatments and a significant realignment of models and specifications.

Pricing and additional specification information relating to the new FG Falcon will be released closer to launch.

Recently launched models from Ford's popular range of light and medium cars will be at the show, including the exciting Fiesta XR4, turbo-diesel examples of Focus and Mondeo, the stylish Focus Coupé-Cabriolet and both Focus and Mondeo derivatives of the XR5 Turbo.

There will also be one new Mondeo model which will be seen in Melbourne ahead of its official launch in Europe.

"We are continually evaluating our established line-up and looking at ways to develop it further, so with that philosophy in mind we are excited to offer a sneak-peek at the Mondeo turbo-diesel wagon," said Mr Osborne.

"The Mondeo TDCi wagon features a torque-laden 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine and offers a massive load carrying ability of 1733 litres when the rear passenger row of seats is folded flat.

"It would be a worthy addition to our permanent line-up and we're taking this opportunity to gauge show-goers reaction to the model before committing to an ongoing program."

Other models to feature on the Ford stand at the motor show include Territory Ghia AWD and Ranger 4 x 4 XLT Crew Cab.

The exciting new Ford product line-up will also look right at home on the fresh new looking Ford motor show stand, which itself is sporting a new appearance and lighting arrangement.

More than 250 design hours have been dedicated to the new 'show room.' The floor consists of over 4500 pieces, weighing in excess of 60 tonnes.

Ford will also be the first company to use the interactive EyeClick floor projection system at an Australian motor show.

The EyeStep display combines intuitive body motion with an interactive surface, turning the Ford show room floor into a fast paced experience of movement and action.

There will also be a number of guest appearances made by Ford V8 Supercar drivers, including Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup (Friday 29th February, 5.00pm–6.00pm), Steven Richards and Mark Winterbottom (Saturday 1st March, 10:30am–11:30am) and Jason Bright (Sunday 2nd March, 10:30am–11:30am).
