The New BMW 3 Series Coupe and Convertible. (Australia)

August 12th, 2010

The new BMW 3 Series Coupé and Convertible receive elegant design enhancements, engine upgrades and higher standard specification as part of a mid-life model update for the range in Australia.

The range-topping BMW 335i Coupé and Convertible now feature the M Sport package as standard equipment and each boasts a newly developed straight-six cylinder power unit which for the first time combines BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology, High Precision Injection, and VALVETRONIC fully variable valve management.

The new BMW 320d Coupé and Convertible is now available with manual transmission and Automatic Start/Stop function giving a reduction in average fuel consumption by 0.8l/100km (0.7l/100km for the convertible).

A unique Innovations Package is also now available for the BMW 3 Series Coupé and Convertible 320d, 325i and 330d.

New alloy wheel options, together with subtle changes to the front and rear body design, complete the sporty appeal of the new models.

BMW Group Australia Managing Director, Stavros Yallouridis, said the BMW 3 Series Coupé and Convertible have enjoyed strong popularity in the Australian market.

“The timeless combination of dynamic performance and elegant design has seen the BMW 3 Series Coupé and Convertible perform extremely well in the Australian market for many years,” said Mr. Yallouridis.

“This model update reinforces those attributes while offering the customer even greater value for money,” he said.

Design changes in the new BMW 3 Series Coupé and Convertible include a wider and more prominent kidney grille with chrome band trim combined with wide air intakes and a clearly accentuated front lip serves to emphasize the wide track of each model, increasing the vehicles’ impressive on-road presence.

The rear of these models now display an accentuated character line stretching across the tail end and reducing the visual height through the interplay of light and shadow. New L-shaped rear taillights, typical of BMW, are now completely red, with LED night design glowing light banks.

Bi-Xenon Headlights, featuring four light rings which emit a light yellow glow for daytime driving, are a distinctive standard feature of the current 3 Series Coupé and Convertible. As a further enhancement, the standard specification of the new BMW 3 Series Coupé and Convertible includes Bi-Xenon headlights with modified contours and ‘eyebrows’ in addition to the four light rings which still emit a light yellow glow for daytime driving.

Also available as an option with the BMW Innovations Package, light rings with LED daytime driving lights combine advanced light technology with increased safety, low energy consumption, long service life and faster indication/brake response, while displaying instant BMW affiliation. LED light elements are now standard on the 335i M Sport models. The distinctly BMW-styled milky glass eyebrow is present on all vehicles, which cuts twin headlights slightly at the top and intensifies the focused gaze, and can be illuminated at night by LEDs as an option also on 320d, 325i and 330d models.

The wide range of colors and materials available for the interior of the new BMW 3 Series Coupé and Convertible include the standard Dakota leather upholstery now also available in the sophisticated Oyster, and Bamboo Grain, Anthracite trim is now available optionally across the range.

There are now three additional metallic colours available, being Vermilion Red, Deep Sea Blue and Mineral White, all serving to further enhance the sporty design of the vehicles. The 325i and 330d also both gain a revised styling of 17” Light-alloy Starspoke wheels, USB Audio Interface and Comfort Access System as standard.

The new BMW 3 Series Coupé and Convertible 320d, 325i and 330d feature the same engine line up as their predecessors. However, the 320d engine receives a power upgrade of 5kW and 30Nm of torque, resulting in a maximum output of 135kW and 380Nm. In addition to this, for the first time ever, the base model 320d offers a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, plus Automatic Start/Stop function and Optimum Shift Indicator, in addition to low rolling resistance tyres, making it both highly efficient and a truly dynamic driving experience.

The 335i M Sport has lost none of the power of its 335i predecessor, whilst dramatically reducing emissions and consumption. The 335i M Sport reduces fuel consumption by 8% on the outgoing model, thanks to its twin-scroll engine which employs high precision injection and VALVETRONIC fully variable valve management, producing 225 kW of power and 400 Nm of torque.

The BMW 3 Series Coupé and Convertible 335i feature an M Sport package as standard including a unique 19” Double–spoke light-alloy wheel, available exclusively for this model. The standard specification has been enriched by Comfort Access System, LED light elements and USB audio interface, while CD changer and TV function are now available as options. M Sport suspension may be deleted as a non-cost option.

All vehicles in the new Coupé and Convertible range enjoy vastly improved ride quality due to new damper technology, meaning a smoother and quieter ride for both the driver and passengers.

All new 3 Series Coupé and Convertible customers will enjoy the benefit of optional packages, including the Innovations Package for 320d, 325i, 330d which offers savings over individual option pricing of up to $1,775.

There is also an exclusive M Sport package optionally available for 320d, 325i and 330d including M signature options ranging from sports seats and leather steering wheel to M Aerodynamic package and M Light Alloy Wheels.

The new 3 Series Coupé and Convertible range is now available in Australia from authorised BMW Dealers.
