Holden to build four cylinder small car in 2010 in Australia

December 22nd, 2008

Kevin Rudd has announced today and further provided assurance to Holden employees Holden manufacturing is here for the long term and plans on adding a small fuel efficient vehicle to its production line in Adelaide.

The new Holden small car will join the VE based Commodore, Sportwagon, Statesman, Caprice and Ute on the production line.

The new small four cylinder car could be based on the same platform as the upcoming Cruze or Astra. There is little speculation that the new four cylinder small car will look like the Torana concept car previewed at Australian Motor Shows a few years ago.

The $6 billion green car fund from the Federal Government could assist in the Development costs to build this new small car.

In Victoria, Ford has already announced its plans to manufacture its small car Focus in 2012 and Toyota announced earlier on in the year its plans to build a Hybrid version of the Australian manufactured Camry.
