Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution gets - Bang for your Buck Award - (Australia)

August 14th, 2008

Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) announced that its newly-released Lancer Evolution performance sedan has taken first place in the $50,000 to $80,000 category of Motor Magazine’s annual ‘Bang for your Bucks’ awards.

The announcement was made in the magazine’s annual feature, which this year compared 17 cars across three price categories to uncover the year’s best performance bargains.

The Lancer Evolution topped the $50,000-$80,000 category, taking the title from a previous back-to-back winner amongst a group of very strong competitors.

The winner is decided predominantly on each car’s prowess over several categories such as speed, performance and dynamics. The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution out-paced, out-performed and out-manoeuvred its competitors, to stay firmly in front with its outstanding all-round performance.

Motor magazine said the Lancer Evolution was a clear winner in its category. According to editor Andrew MacLean, the Evolution made the competition look slightly amateur in comparison.

“The good thing about the Lancer Evolution is that it does so many things so well,” said Mr McLean

Robert McEniry, president and chief executive officer of MMAL was delighted to receive the award.

“As the halo vehicle for the entire Lancer range, the Evolution is something special for Mitsubishi. With an exceptional rally heritage, the Evolution demonstrates the perfect combination of day to day functionality, but with incredible track performance,” said McEniry.

Well known motor sport identity and “Bang for your Bucks” judge, Warren Luff, was very impressed with the Lancer Evolution.

“You can definitely see where the improvements are over the last generation Evo. It’s a real drivers’ car. Front-end grip is good, but it’s the rear end that separates it from everything in Category 3. The chassis is just ultra-responsive to throttle adjustments. Definitely the benchmark of the group,” he said.

Mitsubishi’s Lancer Evolution boasts outstanding styling and design and features a distinct shark-nosed front end, a wedge-shaped profile and crisp, taught lines to create the maximum performance statement.

Both models of the Lancer Evolution range – including the Evolution and the Evolution MR - share a powerful, an inter-cooled and turbo-charged 2.0-litre DOHC inline four cylinder engine which generates an impressive 217 kW of power at 6500 rpm and 336Nm of torque at 3500 rpm. A cutting-edge Twin Clutch Sport Shift transmission is optional on the Evolution and standard on the MR variant.

The Mitsubishi Evolution is available at Mitsubishi Ralliart dealers nationally.
