The Suzuki Grand Vitara DDiS compact SUV has added another award to its bulging trophy cabinet after being named Best Small Wagon 2008 by Overlander 4WD magazine.
The Overlander judges praised the Grand Vitara DDiS for its punchy new turbo-diesel and genuine off-road ability.
“Here at Overlander HQ we have long lamented the fact that new compact 4WDs are almost exclusively single-range soft-roaders powered by petrol engines.
“In the Grand Vitara, both of these concerns are answered as it has both dual-range gearing and a great turbo diesel engine.”
Overlander's senior road tester Fraser Stronach also noted the exceptional performance and economy of the Grand Vitara.
“On the road the DDiS is an effortless performer, storming up hills in top gear that would have bigger petrol engined 4WDs looking for a lower ratio or two. All the while it is quiet, refined and economical with highway fuel consumption around the 8 litres/100km mark easily achieved.”
Suzuki Australian General Manager Tony Devers said he was delighted with the Grand Vitara’s win in the prestigious awards.
“This is more fantastic recognition for the Suzuki Grand Vitara from some of the most experienced 4x4 judges in the country.”
The Overlander award adds to the Best Compact SUV title awarded by 4x4 Australia magazine earlier this year.
“It’s clear from the motoring experts that the Grand Vitara truly is Australia’s most respected compact SUV,” said Devers.
